Like a Precious Seam in the Bottom of the Mine

500 drawings in two notebooks and two boxes.
Ball pen on paper, variable sizes: 5.5 x 8 cm, 8 x 12 cm, 10.5 x 14.8 cm.

I started this project during my artist-in-residence fellowship at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel (Shanghai, China). I found an encyclopaedia at the Shanghai Library, which contains information and detailed illustrations explaining all aspects of Chinese traditions, from furniture to ceramics, hairstyle, clothing or toys. I have been copying by hand these illustrations, in order to build up my own visual dictionary of a culture that is unknown to me.

I was commissioned by Swatch to do an installation of 250 drawings, which were displayed during the launch event of their T-mall platform in China.
